Experts in the end-to-end delivery of specialist biosecurity and pest management services.
Sawland Environmental provides highly experienced contracting solutions across the agriculture, biosecurity, conservation, and broader environmental management sectors, helping our clients protect New Zealand's unique natural heritage and vital economic interests.
We deliver expert, end-to-end biosecurity and pest management services, leveraging our extensive field experience and strategic project management capabilities, always with health, safety and environmental responsibility as our compass.
New Zealand's native species are globally unique, having evolved in isolation without the presence of mammalian predators. Introduced pests, such as mustelids, rodents and possums, are the single biggest threat to native birds, reptiles and threatened plants.
Sawland Environmental's vision is to provide essential pest management services to clients including the Department of Conservation (DOC) to support their mission to protect New Zealand's unique flora and fauna species from these persistent predators.
In years of widespread forest seeding (known as 'mast' events), rodent and mustelid populations can spike, putting iconic and endangered native species at severe risk. Targeted control operations help to manage pest population increases and maintain conditions necessary for native flora and fauna to thrive.

Bovine tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease that impacts New Zealand's cattle and deer industries, threatening our valuable beef, dairy, and venison exports. Pest management activities support the national TB eradication strategy by controlling wild animal 'vectors' that spread TB, primarily possums. This targeted management helps to break the disease cycle and move towards a TB-free future for livestock herds in this country.
The ambitious TB Plan, introduced in 2016, aims to achieve:
TB freedom in livestock by 2026.
TB freedom in possums by 2040.
And ultimately, the biological eradication of TB from New Zealand by 2055.
Sawland Environmental's vision is to support the eradication of bovine TB to not only protect individual farms but secure the foundation of New Zealand's rural economy for generations to come.

Beyond direct threats to flora and fauna, introduced plant pests (weeds) are silently transforming and degrading New Zealand's unique landscapes and natural environment. Species like wilding conifers and other invasive weeds can:
Suppress the establishment and succession of native plant species, altering entire ecosystems.
Degrade water quality by increasing erosion and affecting catchment health.
Significantly increase fire risk, especially in dry regions.
Negatively impact native bird populations by destroying natural habitat and food sources.
Sawland Environmental's vision is to help control and eradicate pest plants, allowing native ecosystems to recover and flourish, preserving the distinctive beauty and ecological integrity of New Zealand's landscapes.
